Michael Moore
Michael first qualified with a BSc Optometry from Dublin Institute of Technology in 2008. Since that time, he has worked in a variety of practice types from small independent practices to large multiple practices and ophthalmology clinics. He took up a part time lecturing post in DIT in 2014 becoming a full-time lecturer in 2018. Michael was awarded a PhD for his thesis “Big Data: Potential as an Ocular Epidemiology and Public Health Tool”. This work primarily involved the use of alternative data sources as ocular epidemiological tools and was supervised by Prof James Loughman (TU Dublin) and Prof Ian Flitcroft (Temple Street, Children’s University Hospital). He has a particular research interest in complex contact lenses, refractive error, myopia and public health. In 2021, Michael was elected to the Optical Registration Board of CORU, the state’s regulator of health and social care professionals. Prior to this he had served as the optical registrant member of the preliminary proceedings committee as part of CORU’s fitness to practice procedure.
